On what criteria are designers paid?
February 14th, 2012
For those designers in creative director jobs they will find that there is a standard wage ladder seen across the different firms and it is easy to compare the salary rates. As with most industries the more experience and expertise you have then the more money you should be paid. This relates to creative directors as they will have begun at the bottom and worked their way up, therefore gaining experience as they progress.
For freelance designers it is much harder to distinguish what is the standard fee they should be paid. The general consensus in the design industry is that designers should be paid depending on the amount of time they spend in each individual project. It may be there that there is an hourly rate and so clients can see where exactly their money is being spent.
